Request assistive technology* from The School of Special Educational Needs: Disability

*The School of Special Educational Needs: Disability (SSEND) defines assistive technology according to the World Health Organisation definition, which incorporates specialised student equipment.

The Request for Assistance Assistive Technology (RFAAT) provides support to schools with students enrolled with an identified disability. Assistive Technology provided by SSEND is categorised under two areas:

1. Student equipment such as hoists, slings, seating and modified desks
2. ICT and peripherals such as laptop computers and specialised keyboards and input devices

ICT and peripherals are provided by SSEND only when a student has an Individual Disability Allocation (IDA) of Level 3 and above.

If the student does not meet the Level 3 criteria, SSEND can provide consultation around practical strategies for using ICT in the classroom through the Request for Assistance process.

Schools are encouraged to liaise with relevant therapy providers when considering student assistive technology needs.
